Introducing the Melange Artists
Work alongside Laly as she creates textures in variations of white. She focuses on value, contrast, layers, and her mixed media collection. Take a look at her favorite sources of inspiration for white and neutral tones in warm and cool hues. In Part Two, you'll work on building a foundation of white values and creating your mixed media piece while experimenting with different types of paper. Part three of Laly's coursework examines her process of building more layers with a focus on value, composition, and contrast. Part Four is all about creating an abstract landscape using the contrast you have built in your previous layers. Laly uses her favorite materials for adding subtle detail and to establish her focal point. Work with Laly as she finds the horizon in her layers of white and builds her beautiful landscape scene. Finally, as a bonus, take a tour of Laly’s fabulous studio.
“Laly Mille is a mixed media artist living in the beautiful Loire Valley of France. She believes that art connects us to the deepest, most beautiful parts of ourselves, and that beauty and creativity have the power to change the world in amazing ways. She loves encouraging creatives from all over the world to shine their light. ”
Hear her inspiration for the "Tiny House" project and how she approaches her art. Take a tour of her studio and hear about her favorite tools. See Alex create a collage using watercolor media. With her sketchbook in hand, she explores creating a color scheme and creating a meaningful birthday gift for her friend. Hear the inspiration for tiny houses and watch as she delves into her process. In other portions of Alex Mathias' coursework, see her create her own collage paper which eventually becomes an abstract nightscape, watch her use Inktense colored pencils to create another piece of abstraction, and see her incorporate all her concepts into one final piece.
“Alex Mathias is a self-taught mixed-media artist who creates colorful abstracts and tiny house artworks. The theme of the tiny house has become one of her signature marks and appears in almost all of her artworks. Sticking with this personal theme gives her confidence and freedom to explore many beautiful artistic styles.”
Meet Tara and go on a nature walk with her in her native Australia. Work along with her as she uses her gel plate to make monoprints using pieces she has collected from her walk, and see how she sources and uses inspiration. See how she cuts her prints, uses them for texture, and creates photo collages from her finds. See Tara experiment and play with her gel plate using all sorts of natural materials for inspiration and guidance. Watch her use fibers, layers, stamping, painting, and all sorts of mark-making directly on the plate to create beautiful monoprints.
“Tara Axford is a mixed media artist who works with monoprints, collage, fabric, thread, and photography. She is interested in the push-pull of constantly searching for something. Her current practice is to explore her surroundings, the sense of place. She enjoys abstracting the essence of a place to create something new. She loves exploring found objects, patterns, and textures to see how they reflect the world around her and how they create a connection to it.”
Roben-Marie will take you on a journey through mark-making and textural elements. Work along with her while you explore black and white, shades of grey, and texture texture texture in your work. Part Two of Roben-Marie's work is all about using the materials you've created in Part One to use as collage with colorful elements. Explore Roben-Marie's methods for creating beautiful, bright layers. In Part Three, you'll see Roben-Marie at work creating her art and learn some of her favorite techniques (like doodling!) for creating a cohesive piece of artwork. And finally She will take you through her favorite techniques for putting finished collage in her art journal with other pieces she has created before. She'll show you how she brings colors and patterns into pieces she's already done to make more cohesive journal pages.
“Roben-Marie Smith is an artist whose own desire to learn paired with her unquenchable curiosity keeps her fingers messy and heart happy. She has been a working artist for fifteen years and being self-taught, she believes that anyone can cultivate their creative spark.
