Introducing the Melange Artists
Follow along as Regina demonstrates the basics of her style of portraits. She'll walk you through the materials, process, and even the dimensions/proportions of human faces so you can create your own beautiful portrait work and floral crowns. Part two of Regina's course takes you from the foundations of portraits to shadows, highlights, and adding in dimension. Then you'll add finishing touches to your portrait like the floral crown and facial details. You'll be amazed at how easy Regina breaks down the process so that you, too, can paint portraits!
“Regina is an artist from Arizona who was encouraged to be creative by her loving grandparents. She worked as a pediatric bother baby nurse and lactation consultant for 13 years, then left her nursing career to pursue her creative dreams of being a full time artist. She is strongly influenced by the warm weather, the bright sun and the Mexican colors, style, and architecture that are predominant in the city where she lives. ”
Kerri McCabe Blackman
In this inspiring tutorial, Kerri takes us through her creative process with her gorgeous abstract figurative work on wood panel cradle board. Learn her methods for creating contrast and color in her backgrounds with layers and layers of creative mark making. Then watch the magic happen as she uses paint to start cutting away layers and to create her winged figure. Finish the painting with linework and bring the impressionistic figure to life. Kerri uses these same methods to create animals and icons- how will you interpret this lesson?
“Kerri Black McCabe is an intuitively led artist living just outside Portland, Oregon. She feels a deep connection to the land of her home, the Pacific Northwest. She has always needed color around her, and grew up with coloring books and crayons, followed in later years by watercolor tubes and pastel sticks. She encourages you to go after your dreams.”
Sara is the queen of the rainbow. If you have a deep need for free play and color, then this is the lesson for you. You will explore all her favorite paint colors and how she mixes them to get just the right hues for a perfect rainbow. Blend the colors in an abstract form to build layers of marks and painterly brushstrokes. Sara's sweet and encouraging lesson will give you the confidence to begin painting immediately as there is no wrong way to make a rainbow!
“Sarah Coey describes art as her “forever passion” and her escape. It’s her outlet to explore all the fun, magical, and dreamy experiences of life in one expressive brushstroke. She has been told her art is full of happiness and joy, magic and wonderment, daydreams, stardust, rainbows, and storms. And her abstracts, full of wonderment, evoke happiness and joy. ”
Erin's joy for making comes through in this fun and easy to follow project. Learn what supplies you need and how to design a landscape made out of paper. Cut out and collage the elements on a paper surface with an eye for color, composition and design. After your art is complete, learn one of the most useful techniques for displaying work on paper - adhering your art to cradle board and varnishing it so you can easily hang your art without the need for glass. How many ways can you imagine your collage could turn out?
“Erin McCormick has always had a love of color, and though she didn’t often use them, she loved collecting colorful markers, oil pastels, and colored pencils. Following a time of personal loss and sadness, and with the encouragement of her husband, she began painting. She found that acrylic is her favorite medium, but she also loves paper collage and pastels. She finds herself drawn to landscapes and abstract work. She’s enjoying the journey!”
Meet artist Chris Trombley and work along with her as she shows you her method for creating a shiny, buffed patina on her surface and carving away color with her palette knife. Then see her layer her surface and walk you through creating beautiful, dynamic, self-described "wonky" houses for her Neighborhood series. Hear her inspiration for this series as she shares stories and explains her thought process throughout.
“Chris Trombley grew up surrounded by galleries and museums, which allowed her to see art frequently. Early on, she worked with clay and fiber, then watercolor and realism. She has moved to collage and mixed medium in recent years, offering challenges and finished pieces that are exciting and thought provoking. ”
